Today (February 21) the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a plea with the Bombay High Court to halt the release of a documentary series centered on Indrani Mukerjea, the primary accused in the Sheena Bora murder case. Mumbai: Today ( 21st February), the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken action by approaching the Bombay High Court to request a stay on the release of a documentary series featuring Indrani Mukerjea, the main accused in the Sheena Bora murder case.

The documentary titled “The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth” is set to debut on Netflix on February 23. This move by the National Investigating Agency came after a special court dismissed the CBI’s initial plea.

The CBI’s plea aims to prevent the documentary’s broadcast until the conclusion of the ongoing trial. The agency argues that the documentary’s promotional claims of revealing “new revelations” without substantiating evidence could create a biased atmosphere and potentially mislead the public, particularly prosecution witnesses, during the critical stage of the trial. Additionally, the CBI contends that the documentary’s motive and release are ill-intentioned, posing a direct threat to witness safety by potentially disclosing their identities, compromising their security, and discouraging them from providing truthful testimony.

The Supreme Court had previously granted bail to Indrani Mukerjea under specific conditions. Sheena Bora, allegedly strangled to death by Indrani, her former driver Shyamvar Rai, and her former husband Sanjeev Khanna in April 2012, was Indrani’s daughter from a previous relationship. Bora’s body was later burned in a forest in Raigad district. The murder case gained attention in 2015 after Rai confessed to the killing following his arrest in another case.

Indrani was arrested in August 2015 and released on bail in May 2022. Other accused individuals in the case, including Rai, Khanna, and Peter Mukerjea, are also currently out on bail.
