New Delhi: A petition has been submitted to the Delhi High Court challenging the results of the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2024, which is used for admission to Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other business schools.
The matter initially addressed on December 24 by a bench led by Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav, who requested responses from the Union Ministry of Education and the CAT convenor, IIM Calcutta, which administered the exam.

A vacation bench consisting of Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora, who noted that the responses had not yet been received.
The hearing has been rescheduled for January 3, 2025. The CAT 2024 exam took place on November 24, with a provisional answer key released on December 3.
One candidate who took the exam raised an objection regarding the provisional answer key, claiming there was an error in a question from the comprehension section. Despite this objection, the candidate alleges that the final answer key was released without any changes to the provisional key.
The aspirant claims that his objection is supported by several distinguished experts and faculty members from various CAT coaching centers.
Additionally, a total of 272 objections were raised by different candidates concerning the comprehension section of the exam.
The petitioner argues that IIM Calcutta speedily declared the results on December 19 without providing any justification or allowing adequate time for candidates to seek legal redress for their grievances.
He contends that the results were expected in the second week of January 2025 and that the premature announcement in December “speaks volumes” about the process.
As a result, the aspirant urged the High Court to cancel the December results and to appoint an Expert Committee to determine the correct answers. The petition filed through Advocate Praveen Kumar Singh of Lex Remedium.
The vacation bench set to hear the matter on January 3 consists of Justices Tara Vitasta Ganju and Anish Dayal.
The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2024, an entrance exam for admission to prestigious management institutes in India, has drawn attention for its format and increasing competition. As one of the most sought-after exams, CAT determines entry into the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and several other top business schools. The exam’s structure includes sections on quantitative ability, verbal ability, and data interpretation, challenging candidates to demonstrate a wide range of skills.
