Kolkata: Today, 14th Feb, The Calcutta High Court granted permission for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to hold a rally in Burdwan on February 16, 2025. The court’s decision came after the West Bengal government had denied permission, citing concerns over noise disturbances during ongoing school exams.

The RSS approached the Calcutta High Court after the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government refused to allow the use of loudspeakers at the rally. The state police had earlier denied permission, stating that the ongoing Madhyamik Pariksha (secondary examinations) would be disrupted due to loudspeakers.

However, the petitioner countered this argument by pointing out that there were no schools near the rally venue. The court considered this argument and noted that the event is scheduled for Sunday, a day when no exams are taking place.

After reviewing the case, the Calcutta High Court set aside the West Bengal government’s objection and permitted the RSS rally to proceed.

Justice Amrita Sinha, who presided over the case, granted conditional permission for the event. According to a report by Media, the court has imposed certain conditions on the organizers to ensure smooth conduct.

The court has directed the RSS rally organizers to:

  • Ensure that the number of attendees remains under control.
  • Keep the loudspeaker volume within permissible limits.

With the High Court’s decision, the RSS rally is now set to take place on February 16 in Burdwan, and it is expected that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat will attend the event.
