He instructed that Bose’s request for an interim order, seeking a directive to Banerjee and others to refrain from making further remarks on the contentious issue, will be addressed during the upcoming Monday hearing.

Kolkata: Today(Jul 10th): The Calcutta High Court is set to hear on Monday(15th July) an interim application by West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose in a defamation suit against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and several other TMC leaders regarding alleged comments attributed to her.

Justice Krishna Rao recently allowed the defamation complaint to proceed in his court. He instructed that Bose’s request for an interim order, seeking a directive to Banerjee and others to refrain from making further remarks on the contentious issue, will be addressed during the upcoming Monday hearing.

Additionally, Justice Rao mandated that Bose’s legal representative provide copies of the application to the defendants involved in the lawsuit in the interim period.

Governor Bose filed the defamation case on June 28, following Banerjee’s public remarks made a day earlier. During an administrative meeting in the state secretariat on June 27,

Earlier, on May 2,a contractual female employee of Raj Bhavan had accused Bose of misconduct, prompting an investigation by the Kolkata Police.

According to Article 361 of the Constitution, no criminal proceedings can be initiated against a governor during their term in office.

Governor Bose’s decision to pursue a defamation case reflects his intent to clear his name and address what he views as unfounded and damaging allegations. The high-profile nature of the case, involving two of West Bengal’s most prominent political figures, ensures that the proceedings will be closely watched.
