Bomb Threat at Punjab & Haryana HC: Bar Urges Lawyers to Vacate Courtrooms, Proceedings Suspended Till Lunch

Today, On 22nd May, A bomb threat alert at the Punjab & Haryana High Court led to immediate suspension of court proceedings till lunch. The Bar Association asked all lawyers to vacate the courtrooms as a safety measure.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court temporarily suspended its court proceedings on Thursday following the receipt of a bomb threat.

The High Court Registrar General announced that police personnel and Bomb Disposal Squads from Chandigarh Police were deployed to inspect the court premises.

Court activities are expected to resume at 2 PM.

A notice issued by the Registrar General, stated,

“As requested by the President, Punjab & Haryana High Court Bar Association, the lawyers are free to join the proceedings through the virtual mode,”

The notice also clarified that no adverse orders would be made if any lawyer is unable to attend the court, either physically or virtually.

In the meantime, the Bar Association urged all legal professionals to vacate the courtroom immediately as a safety measure.

High Court Bar Association Secretary Gagandeep Jammu in a notice said,

“It is for the information of all the Hon’ble members of the Bar that an alert regarding a bomb threat at the Hon’ble High Court has been received,”

All members have been advised to remain vigilant.

The notice further instructed that if any suspicious or unattended items are discovered within the premises, they should be reported to the office of the High Court Bar Association, Chandigarh, without delay.
