Navya Haridas, who also contested the bypoll from the Wayanad constituency, lost to Priyanka Gandhi by a massive margin of 5,12,399 votes. Haridas finished third, trailing behind the Communist Party of India’s candidate, Sathyan Mokeri.
In her petition, Haridas claimed that Priyanka Gandhi had allegedly violated election norms during the campaign and while submitting her nomination papers. She accused Gandhi of suppressing important details about her personal and family assets.
Haridas has alleged that Priyanka Gandhi
“misguided, misinformed, and kept the voters in the dark with the intention of influencing the voter’s exercise of choice.”
Furthermore, the petition also claims that Gandhi engaged in activities that constitute “undue influence” and “corrupt practices,” as defined under the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
Haridas argued that Priyanka Gandhi’s nomination papers did not adhere to the rules mandated under election laws and the Conduct of Election Rules. She stated that this was a direct violation of legal norms governing elections.
Citing these claims and other grounds, Navya Haridas has requested the Kerala High Court to nullify Priyanka Gandhi’s election as the Member of Parliament for Wayanad.
Haridas is represented in court by Advocate Hari Kumar G. Nair, who will present her case and substantiate the allegations.
This legal challenge has brought renewed focus to the Wayanad bypoll and raised questions about the transparency and fairness of election practices.
