Allahabad High Court Has Given BHU Vice Chancellor One Week To File An Affidavit On The Promotion Of Assistant Professor Dr. Sushil Kumar Dubey. The Matter Will Be Heard Again On September 23.
Prayagraj: On September 17, the Allahabad High Court gave one week to the Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) to submit an affidavit in connection with the promotion matter of Assistant Professor Dr. Sushil Kumar Dubey. The case will now be heard on September 23.
On Tuesday, Justice Manju Rani Chauhan passed this order while hearing a contempt application filed by Dr. Dubey, who approached the court alleging non-compliance of earlier directions regarding his promotion.

During the hearing, the counsel representing the BHU Vice Chancellor informed the court that

The counsel further pointed out that
“a new vice chancellor assumed charge on August 1 and the executive council has been constituted, in which the matter relating to the petitioner’s promotion shall be reconsidered.”

The counsel then requested additional time, saying,
“He prayed for a week to file an affidavit in this regard, on which the court fixed September 23 as the next date of hearing.”
Earlier, on May 12, the High Court had issued notice to the university authorities asking them to file a compliance affidavit, showing that they had fully followed the order passed by the writ court on January 7.
In its January 7 order, the court had clearly directed that
“the executive council, if constituted within a short period of three months, would decide on the issue of reconsideration of the petitioner’s promotion.”
The court had also added that
“in case the executive council is not constituted and fails to take any decision within the aforesaid period, the petitioner will be considered for promotion, subject to any subsequent decision of the executive council.”
With the executive council now in place under the new Vice Chancellor, the university has assured the court that Dr. Dubey’s promotion matter will be reconsidered. The next crucial hearing is scheduled for September 23, when the Vice Chancellor is expected to file the required affidavit confirming compliance.
