[BREAKING] Arvind Kejriwal Bail | Delhi HC Defers Hearing ED Plea for Cancelling AAP Chief’s Bail to July 15

NEW DELHI: Today(on 10th July), The Delhi High Court deferred the hearing on the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) plea seeking the cancellation of bail granted to Arvind Kejriwal, rescheduling it to July 15.

The High Court adjourned the case following a statement from the ED indicating that they had received Kejriwal’s response late last night. However, Kejriwal’s legal team contested this claim, asserting that the reply was served yesterday at 1 pm.

The ongoing legal proceedings surrounding the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) plea for the cancellation of bail granted to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal have garnered significant attention. Here is a detailed history of the case:

Initial Allegations and Arrest

Arvind Kejriwal was implicated in a case involving allegations of money laundering and financial irregularities. The ED, responsible for investigating economic crimes, initiated an inquiry into the matter, leading to Kejriwal’s arrest.

Bail Granted

Following his arrest, Kejriwal applied for bail, arguing that the charges against him were politically motivated and lacked substantial evidence. The court, after considering the arguments from both sides, granted him bail. This decision was seen as a significant relief for Kejriwal, allowing him to continue his administrative duties as the Chief Minister of Delhi.

Enforcement Directorate’s Plea

Unsatisfied with the bail decision, the ED filed a plea for the cancellation of Kejriwal’s bail. The ED argued that Kejriwal’s release could potentially hinder the investigation and that he might tamper with evidence or influence witnesses.

Delhi High Court Involvement

The Delhi High Court took up the ED’s plea and scheduled a hearing to deliberate on the matter. The initial hearing saw the ED presenting its case, emphasizing the need for stringent measures to ensure an unbiased investigation.

Deferral of Hearing

On July 10, the Delhi High Court deferred the hearing to July 15. The deferral was prompted by the ED’s statement that they had received Kejriwal’s response to their plea late last night. However, Kejriwal’s lawyers contested this claim, stating that the reply was served yesterday at 1 pm.

“We received Kejriwal’s response in the late hours of last night.”

– said the ED, explaining their request for more time.

In contrast, Kejriwal’s legal team asserted-

“The reply was served yesterday at 1 pm.”

Upcoming Hearing

The next hearing, now scheduled for July 15, is anticipated to be critical. Both parties are expected to present comprehensive arguments, with the ED likely to reiterate its concerns regarding potential interference in the investigation, while Kejriwal’s defense will focus on refuting these claims and emphasizing the legitimacy of the initial bail decision.
