NEW DELHI: In the entertainment industry, Cine1 Studios and T-Series have reached a settlement agreement, resolving their dispute over the movie “Animal”. This resolution was confirmed by the counsel representing both parties in court, paving the way for the film’s release on Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms.
The Delhi High Court was informed Today(22/01/2024) that Cine1 Private Limited and Super Cassettes Industries Private Limited (T-Series) have settled their disputes regarding alleged violation of contractual obligations related to ‘Animal’ movie [Cine1 Studios Private Limited v Super Cassettes Industries Pvt Ltd & Ors].

Justice Sanjeev Narula, presiding over the case, took note of the submissions and instructed both sides to officially record the agreement. The matter is set to be considered for disposal on January 24.
The dispute originated when Cine1 Studios filed a lawsuit against T-Series. Cine1 contended that the two production houses had an agreement to co-produce the Ranbir Kapoor starrer “Animal.” According to Cine1, this agreement entitled them to a 35 percent share of the profits and a similar percentage of intellectual property rights in the movie.
Cine1’s suit accused T-Series of incurring expenses and generating box office revenues from the film without their approval, failing to share any details of these transactions, and not paying any money to Cine1 as per the profit-share agreement.

During a hearing on January 15, T-Series countered Cine1’s claims. They argued that Cine1 had not invested any funds in the film and had relinquished all its intellectual property and derivative rights in the movie for Rs2.6 crores. T-Series maintained that an amendment to the contract was made on August 2, 2022, where Cine1 agreed to give up its rights for the said amount, a fact they claimed was concealed in the lawsuit. Cine1, however, disputed this argument, alleging that the document presented to the court was interpolated.
The case was argued by Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi on behalf of Cine1, supported by a team of advocates including Jaya Goyal, Gitika Agarwal, Parminder Singh, and others. Representing T-Series was Senior Advocate Amit Sibal, accompanied by advocates Harsh Kaushik, Sachin Akhoury, and Arpit Srivastava.
This settlement marks a significant turn in the legal battle between the two production houses, clearing any obstacles for the digital release of “Animal.” The film, starring Ranbir Kapoor, has been a topic of much anticipation and this resolution is likely to be welcomed by fans eagerly awaiting its OTT debut.
