UTTAR PRADESH: The Allahabad High Court rejected a public interest litigation (PIL) that asked for a ban on loudspeakers and public address systems at the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.

The petition was filed by Brahmachari Dayanand and another person.

They complained that the loud noise from loudspeakers and LCD screens in nearby camps was disturbing their meditation.

A bench of two judges, Chief Justice Arun Bhansali and Justice Kshitij Shailendra, said the petition did not have strong proof.

The court pointed out that the petitioners were staying temporarily in Sector 18, Mukti Marg, during the Maha Kumbh but did not provide clear evidence that the noise levels were actually higher than what the law allows.

The court also said that the only proof given by the petitioners was just some photographs of loudspeakers used for announcements along the temporary roads inside the Kumbh Mela area.

The court stated that the petition seemed to be an “academic exercise” that was based only on legal references but had no real data or expert analysis to support the noise pollution claim.

The judges said that such a “laconic petition” could not be considered and dismissed the case immediately.
