Allahabad High Court Rejects Anticipatory Bail Plea of Congress MP Rakesh Rathore in Sexual Exploitation Case

Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Congress MP Rakesh Rathore, who is accused of sexually exploiting a woman for four years under the false promise of marriage. The court disposed of the petition, directing Rathore to surrender within two weeks.

The order was passed by a single bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan after hearing arguments from both sides. The lawyer representing Rathore argued that the plaintiff had filed the case after four years, raising doubts about its credibility. “The petitioner has been falsely implicated in this case,” Rathore’s counsel contended.

On the other hand, the plaintiff’s lawyer countered that the delay was due to the victim’s fear of the MP’s influence and power. The counsel emphasized that Rathore is a respected leader in society, and the complainant took time to gather the courage to file the case.

During the hearing, Rathore’s counsel requested additional time for his surrender, but the court rejected the anticipatory bail plea. The High Court ordered Rathore to surrender before the sessions court within two weeks. Additionally, the court directed that his bail plea should be decided at the earliest without unnecessary delays.

On January 17, the police registered a case against Rakesh Rathore after a woman filed a complaint, accusing him of sexually exploiting her for four years on the false promise of marriage. Following this, on January 20, Rathore’s counsels, Advocates Arvind Masdalan and Dinesh Tripathi, filed a petition seeking anticipatory bail in Sitapur.

Before approaching the Allahabad High Court, Rathore had filed an anticipatory bail plea in the MP-MLA court in Sitapur on January 23, but the court rejected his plea.

With the High Court also rejecting his plea, Rathore now has no option but to surrender within the given timeframe and seek legal remedies through the sessions court. The case is now expected to proceed with further legal scrutiny as per court directives.
