Today, On June 26, In the Advocate Murder Case, the ex-president of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association remanded in police custody until July 1. This action follows the investigation into the murder of an advocate, which has drawn significant attention. Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and question the former bar association leader.

Jammu: A special court remanded Mian Abdul Qayoom, the former president of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association‘s Srinagar wing, to police custody until July 1 in connection with the 2020 murder of fellow advocate Babar Qadri.
Qayoom arrested on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in the conspiracy to murder Qadri. A well-known figure in Kashmir, Qayoom associated with the All Party Hurriyat Conference and the banned Jamaat-e-Islami. His arrest followed the State Investigation Agency (SIA) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police gathering substantial evidence against him.

Officials revealed that during the investigation, Mian Abdul Qayoom emerged as the main suspect in the conspiracy to murder Babar Qadri. Qayoom notably the father-in-law of Justice Javed Iqbal Wani of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.
Following Qadri’s high-profile murder, the police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to delve into the case. Later, the investigation handed over to the State Investigation Agency (SIA) for further scrutiny. In August 2022, the police searched Qayoom’s residences and those of two other lawyers in Srinagar, confiscating various digital devices, bank statements, and documents as part of the ongoing investigation.
In September of the previous year, the SIA offered a reward of Rs 10 lakh for information leading to the capture of Qadri’s killers.

The SIA took over the investigation of Qadri’s murder case in July 2023. Qadri, a human rights advocate and frequent television commentator, was shot dead at his home in the Hawal area of downtown Srinagar in September 2020. He previously survived an assassination attempt in 2018.
