The judge, visibly surprised and unimpressed by the advocate’s appearance, sarcastically asked,
“Is it 50 degree inside the courtroom?”
The advocate, seemingly embarrassed, responded:
“Worn the sunglasses unintentionally, forgot to remove it.”
Justice M. Nagaprasanna, not amused by the explanation, commented directly on the fashion choice, saying,
“They are nice glasses but not inside the court.”
The courtroom incident is a reminder of the seriousness and decorum expected in legal settings. Judges and senior advocates often emphasize the importance of dressing and behaving respectfully in court, as it reflects the gravity of the legal process and the dignity of the institution.
Wearing sunglasses indoors—especially in a court of law—can appear casual or even disrespectful, whether intentional or not. This brief exchange between the judge and the advocate has quickly gained attention online, with many sharing the quotes and discussing the importance of courtroom etiquette.
Such incidents, while minor, serve as teaching moments for legal professionals and law students alike. Respecting courtroom norms—including proper attire—is not just tradition but a basic expectation of legal practice.
