Advocate Anil Mishra and three others, accused of burning Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s picture in Gwalior, faced the Madhya Pradesh High Court, which adjourned their bail hearing and summoned the case diary, while the government sought more time.
The incident involving the burning of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s picture in Gwalior has escalated significantly.
A Special Division Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court reviewed the bail petition related to this case and requested the case diary.
In Gwalior district, Madhya Pradesh, the High Court examined the bail applications of former High Court Bar Association President Anil Mishra and three other individuals accused of burning Dr. Ambedkar’s picture and chanting inflammatory slogans.
During the proceedings, the High Court called for the case diary and asked the state government to provide a response.
As the government sought additional time, the court has scheduled the next hearing for January 4.
A decision on whether Anil Mishra and his associates will be granted bail or remain in custody will be made following Sunday’s hearing.
The attorney representing Anil Mishra and the other detainees argued that the Gwalior police failed to adhere to proper legal procedures. It was claimed that the arrests occurred before the First Information Report (FIR) was filed, and that family members were not promptly notified of the arrests.
The lawyer also pointed out that under the SC/ST Act, there is a requirement to issue a notice before any release, which was reportedly not fulfilled.
Notably, the JMFC Court had previously denied the bail request of Advocate Anil Mishra and the three others, leading to their incarceration for the act of burning Ambedkar’s photo.
The police filed an FIR against Anil Mishra and seven others at the Cyber Cell Police Station. It is claimed that last Thursday, he and his associates burned Dr. Ambedkar’s picture and shouted slogans in front of the SP office.
