NEW DELHI: Recently, A local court has initiated a formal request for a detailed explanation from the authorities at Tihar Jail regarding a complaint filed by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha.

Earlier this week, Kavitha had filed a plea requesting access to specific items due to her medical condition. In response, Special Judge Kaveri Baweja issued an order directing the concerned superintendent of Tihar Jail to allow Kavitha access to a list of items, including home-cooked food, a mattress, slippers, clothes, bed sheets, books, a blanket, a pen, paper, jewellery, and medicines, “in accordance with rules.”

However, Kavitha filed a fresh plea on Thursday, claiming that the court’s order granting her access to these items had not been followed.

The application states-

“Despite the court’s directive issued on March 26, none of the items specified in the order were provided to or permitted to be carried by the applicant (Kavitha), indicating a clear disregard for the court’s instructions.”

Furthermore, it adds-

“Additionally, the applicant has been denied the permission to carry her spectacles and ‘jap mala’ to the jail.”

The application emphasized the court’s original decision, which was influenced by Kavitha’s reported health issues. In light of the recent plea, Judge Baweja has called for a formal response from Tihar’s administration and scheduled a follow-up hearing for Saturday.

The Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) involvement, which has placed Kavitha, daughter of Telangana’s former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, in the spotlight for her alleged participation in the ‘South Group’.

This faction is accused of orchestrating a Rs 100 crore kickback scheme targeting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), in exchange for a disproportionate share of liquor licenses in Delhi. Following her arrest by the ED in Hyderabad, Kavitha underwent a seven-day custody period starting March 16, subsequently extended by an additional three days.

On March 26, a judicial mandate remanded her till April 9.
