Today, On 28th July, The Supreme Court has issued a notice on YouTuber Savukku Shankar’s petition seeking a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in Tamil Nadu’s Ambedkar Business Champions Scheme. He had challenged the Madras High Court’s dismissal of his plea.
The Madras High Court directed Tamil Nadu police officials to submit by July 29 a list of all pending cases against YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar, while hearing his plea alleging police interference in his media company’s operations.

However, the investigation in the main FIR, which was registered on May 3, 2024, at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Coimbatore, will continue separately.

On Friday(26th July),The Madras High Court bench of Justice M.S. Ramesh and Justice Sunder Mohan has recused itself from A. Kamala’s habeas corpus plea challenging her son Savukku Shankar’s detention under the Goondas Act. The recusal follows Kamala’s remarks against the bench in a Supreme Court petition, highlighting concerns over freedom of speech and judicial independence.
The Supreme Court criticized Justice Jayachandran for commenting on Justice Swaminathan and urged judges to refrain from such criticism. They granted interim bail to YouTuber Savukku Shankar and requested an expedited hearing of the case, emphasizing the importance of preventive detention matters. The Court advised against High Court judges making remarks about their colleagues.
