YouTuber Savukku Shankar approached the Supreme Court challenging the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to detain him again under the Goondas Act, days after the Madras HC quashed earlier orders passed under the preventive detention law. Bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud Today (Aug 14) granted him interim relief in the matter by staying any further coercive action.
Today, On 12th June, the Madras High Court set to hear the habeas corpus petition for YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar’s release. The court has allowed his mother to request the state government for his temporary medical release. The case has drawn attention due to conflicting opinions among judges and potential implications for free speech and civil liberties in India.
Today(on 4th June), The Madras High Court has granted permission for the CB-CID to appeal the acquittal of YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar. Shankar was cleared by an Additional Sessions Court in 2017 in a case involving allegations of illegally acquiring electronic data from the DVAC office in 2008.
