On Monday(9th Sept), The Delhi High Court rejected AAP leader Somnath Bharti’s plea for access to the EVM data used in the New Delhi constituency. However, the court ordered the preservation of VVPAT slips to maintain transparency.
The Supreme Court today dismissed the PIL alleging ECI’s EVM misuse, deeming the allegations vague and an abuse of legal process. The Bench advised filing election petitions with the High Court for election-related concerns, criticizing the lack of evidence in the petition. The plea for a high-powered committee to investigate ECI’s actions was also rejected.
The Supreme Court rejected a plea to review its previous decision on voter secrecy violation, citing insufficient grounds for reconsideration. The bench, consisting of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, also denied a request for an open court hearing. This reaffirms the court’s confidence in the integrity of the current electoral system.
