Chief Justice of India (CJI) and 25 Supreme Court judges to visit Araku Valley in Andhra Pradesh on 12 January. The visit is part of a special programme highlighting the region’s cultural heritage and natural beauty. Araku, known for its scenic landscapes and tribal culture, will host this high-profile judicial delegation.
The Supreme Court criticized the Finance Ministry for diverting Debt Recovery Tribunals (DRTs) from their primary role of resolving cases to focus on data collection. The Court mandated the establishment of a Standard Operating Procedure to ensure the efficient functioning of DRTs and requested detailed staffing information by January 2.
On November 21, the Andhra Pradesh Assembly unanimously approved a resolution to establish a High Court bench in Kurnool, introduced by Minister N Md Farooq. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu confirmed the resolution will be sent to the Central government, reinforcing the state’s commitment to development post-bifurcation in 2014.
