Chhattisgarh High Court ruled that forcing a woman to undergo a virginity test is unconstitutional. The Court stated it violates her right to dignity and personal liberty under Article 21.
The Uttarakhand High Court Today (Feb 12) sent notices to the Central and State governments regarding multiple petitions challenging the recently implemented Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Petitioners argue that the UCC violates fundamental rights under the Constitution, interferes with religious practices, and imposes unconstitutional restrictions on marriage and live-in relationships. The court has combined similar petitions and will hear the matter after six weeks.
The Calcutta High Court ruled that installing and operating CCTV cameras inside a home without the consent of co-occupants is a violation of privacy. In a dispute between two brothers, the court found that five cameras were wrongly positioned to monitor one brother’s private living space. Citing the Justice KS Puttaswamy vs. Union of India case, the court emphasized that privacy is a fundamental right under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution and ordered the immediate restriction of these cameras.

The Allahabad High Court Today (March 22nd) declared the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madarsa Education Act, 2004 unconstitutional and a violation of secularism. The court directed the government to accommodate madrasa students into the formal education system. This decision will lead to the ceasing of government financial aid to madrasas and their eventual abolition.
