Today, On 13th December, the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, declined to urgently hear a petition challenging the awarding of the Subbulakshmi Award to Carnatic musician T.M. Krishna. The petitioner argued Krishna’s past comments harmed M.S. Subbulakshmi’s reputation. The Court deemed no immediate intervention necessary, with a scheduled appeal for December 16. The case continues to stir debate.
The Madras High Court, on Tuesday(19th Nov) led by Justice G. Jayachandran, has prohibited the Madras Music Academy from awarding the Sangita Kalanidhi MS Subbulakshmi Award to TM Krishna, honoring a petition by V. Srinivasan. The court highlighted that any true respect for Subbulakshmi means adhering to her wishes against using her name for awards.
