Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has constituted a special vacation bench of the Supreme Court to hear urgent civil and criminal matters on December 22, ensuring timely judicial intervention during the court’s Christmas and New Year holidays.
Urgent matters in the Supreme Court will no longer be accepted through oral mentioning. CJI Surya Kant has directed that only written mentioning slips explaining the cause of urgency will be considered for immediate listing.
Justice Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar heard vacation bench matters in the Delhi High Court till 9 PM, working nonstop since 10:30 AM. Exhausted, he said, “I am at the end of my tether” during the late hearing.
The Orissa High Court will remain closed for summer vacation, but arrangements have been made to hear urgent matters on specific dates. A dedicated bench will be available to handle critical cases during this period.
