The Allahabad High Court set aside a punishment order against a judicial officer who was accused of receiving “objectionable photographs” from a woman on Facebook and being in an improper relationship with her. After being selected as a civil judge, the judicial officer had received multiple friend requests on Facebook, many of them with queries about competitive examinations.
The Allahabad HC Today (April 27th) granted bail to former MP Dhananjay Singh but refused his plea to suspend or stay a 7-year imprisonment sentence passed by a district court in a 2020 kidnapping and extortion case. After the HC order, Singh will be released on bail but he cannot contest the election.
The Allahabad High Court Today (March 22nd) declared the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madarsa Education Act, 2004 unconstitutional and a violation of secularism. The court directed the government to accommodate madrasa students into the formal education system. This decision will lead to the ceasing of government financial aid to madrasas and their eventual abolition.

The Supreme Court Today disposed of a plea challenging the Allahabad High Court’s order on Mathura’s Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah Masjid dispute. It allowed the Shahi Masjid Idgah to pursue a recall application. The Supreme Court also upheld the interim stay on the implementation of the high court’s order for a court-monitored survey of the Shahi Idgah Mosque complex.
Mukhtar Ansari | Delhi Police challenged a NHRC order criticizing their failure to protect Shahnawaz Ansari, linked to gangster Mukhtar Ansari, killed in a Bijnor court. The court temporarily suspended the NHRC directive for compensation and appointed an amicus curiae to assist in the matter. The hearing was postponed until July 18, with the Uttar Pradesh Police included as a respondent.
