Today, On 4th June, The Supreme Court criticised the rising trend of newly designated senior advocates skipping ongoing cases. Justice Amanullah called it “highly unethical,” stressing that becoming a senior advocate means greater responsibility, not an excuse to avoid appearances.
Adish Aggarwala, former SCBA president and AIBA head, requested the Chief Justice of India to establish guidelines for maintaining judicial decorum. Highlighting issues of disrespectful behavior by judges during virtual hearings, he urged for a monitoring mechanism led by a retired Supreme Court judge and the creation of a committee to address complaints of unprofessional conduct.
Senior Advocate Gaurav Bhatia, a BJP leader, was assaulted at a Noida court despite agreeing to adjourn a matter. The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) condemned the aggression, expressing deep concern and calling for decisive action against the perpetrator. The SCBA emphasized maintaining ethical standards and decorum within the legal profession.
