The Second National Lok Adalat of 2025 will take place on May 10 across 28 states and Union Territories, under the leadership of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and CJI-designate Justice BR Gavai.
Today, On 2nd September, The Supreme Court directed the Centre to submit an affidavit detailing its compliance with the 2021 ruling on welfare measures for migrant workers. This follows concerns over the implementation of directives aimed at supporting migrant workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Court emphasized the importance of addressing the welfare of distressed migrant workers and instructed the Centre to demonstrate compliance with the judgment and subsequent directions. This matter is scheduled for listing after three weeks.
Today, On 9th July, The Supreme Court warned 30 states and Union Territories of contempt charges for not complying with directives on child adoption, specifically the establishment of Specialized Adoption Agencies in every district by January 31, 2024. Only a few states have fully complied, and the court is considering coercive measures for non-compliance. Additional hearings are scheduled for September.
