Today, On 16th January, The Supreme Court refused to hear a Waqf Muttawalli’s plea on alleged UMEED portal glitches, saying he must approach the proper authority. The Bench said, “We see no ground to entertain this writ petition,” granting liberty for clarification.
The proposed “Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act, 1995” seeks to transfer decision-making authority over Waqf properties to district collectors, aiming to redefine governance and management across India. The bill faces opposition from various parties, but aims to prevent wrongful declarations of government land as Waqf property while promoting inclusive representation and improved administration.
On Tuesday (6th August), a bill to amend Waqf board regulations was circulated among Lok Sabha members. It proposes significant changes, including the inclusion of Muslim women and non-Muslims in the boards and seeks to rename the Waqf Act, 1995, to the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act, 1995.
