NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court will hear Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Durgesh Pathak’s plea on Monday, seeking dismissal of a petition that challenges his election from Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar Assembly seat in the 2022 bypolls. A bench led by Justice Surya Kant is scheduled to hear the matter and has asked Rajan Tiwari, who filed the election petition in the Delhi High Court, to respond.
The Karnataka High Court on Thursday (7th Nov) quashed a FIR against BJP President JP Nadda, ruling that his election speech did not constitute undue influence as defined by the Indian Penal Code. Justice Nagaprasanna stated that Nadda’s appeal for votes lacked any problematic content, affirming there was no evidence for the alleged offences.
Today (14th May): A plea filed in the Supreme Court seeks a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into a sting operation video related to the Sandeshkhali incident. The footage allegedly reveals fabricated rape charges against a TMC leader and undue influence on investigative agencies. The plea urges for a thorough investigation and emphasizes the necessity of scrutinizing the video evidence.
The Supreme Court granted bail to Sam Higginbottom University’s vice chancellor, Rajendra Bihari Lal, in religious conversion cases. The court raised concerns about excessive police interest in the matter. Lal is charged with serious offenses and is required to cooperate with the ongoing investigation. The state government’s plea to recall the bail order was denied.
