CJI Led Bench Today (July 30th) said it will hear on August 7th a plea of the Uddhav Thackeray faction challenging Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar’s order declaring the Shiv Sena bloc led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as the “real political party” after its split in June 2022.
Today(on 29th July), The Supreme Court has sought responses from Ajit Pawar and his MLAs on a plea challenging the Maharashtra Speaker’s decision recognizing his group as the legitimate NCP. The court, led by CJI DY Chandrachud, acknowledged the need for an expedited hearing due to the assembly’s term ending in November.
Today, On 26th July, Shiv Sena leader Bharatshet Gogavale has sought an urgent hearing in the Bombay High Court to challenge Maharashtra Speaker Rahul Narwekar’s decision not to disqualify 14 MLAs from the opposing Uddhav Thackeray faction. He argues that the members violated party instructions and should be disqualified. The court has set the hearing for August 6.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Uddhav Thackeray and Sanjay Raut have requested an extra two days to pay a Rs 2,000 fine imposed for a defamation case filed by Rahul Shewale of the rival Shiv Sena faction. The complaint, related to defamatory statements in Saamna, led to a Magistrate court summons and denial of discharge from the case.

Today, On 10th June, Navneet Rana, a BJP leader involved in a Hanuman Chalisa controversy, failed to appear before court due to health concerns. Accused of obstructing police, the court previously rejected their discharge plea. Her husband, also facing charges, appeared in court. The matter has been adjourned to July 2, and the couple are currently out on bail.
Today (8th May): The Bombay High Court dismissed petitions challenging the renaming of Aurangabad and Osmanabad as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Dharashiv. The court ruled that the renaming notifications were not illegal and affirmed the state government’s authority to make such decisions. The government stated that the renaming did not incite religious or communal hatred, and cited previous unsuccessful attempts to change the names.
