Today, On 7th April, BJP MP Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato has written a letter to the Chief Justice of India, raising concerns over attacks on the judiciary by the West Bengal Government. He praised the Supreme Court’s decision in the SSC scam case and called it a big relief for lakhs of students. Mahato strongly criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for disrespecting the judiciary in public. He said, “Smt. Mamata Banerjee’s pattern of undermining judicial authority is now unmistakable.”
On Thursday(6th June),The Calcutta High Court firmly cautioned the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government about ongoing post-election violence in West Bengal, directing the Bengal Police to promptly intervene. Justices Kaushik Chanda and Apurba Sinha, on the bench, expressed grave apprehensions regarding the state’s law and order situation.
Today, 16th, April, The Supreme Court ordered the West Bengal Governor to appoint six Vice-Chancellors from a list submitted by the Mamata government. This emphasizes the court’s role in state educational appointments and highlights collaboration between the judiciary and the executive. The court also urged the state government to propose more candidates for consideration. Ongoing disputes between the government and the governor were addressed. The court scheduled a further hearing for April 30.
