Kejriwal cited the numerous legal cases he faces as justification. Tihar Jail authorities oppose the request, arguing against special treatment. The court sought responses from the jail and the Enforcement Directorate.
Today(on 17th July),Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi High Court, accused the CBI of orchestrating the Chief Minister’s arrest in the liquor policy scam to ensure his prolonged detention, emphasizing the gravity of the situation with the words, “By hook or by crook… he is behind bars.”
Today(on 15th July),The Tihar Jail authorities dismissed the Aam Aadmi Party’s concerns about Arvind Kejriwal’s health, stating his vital signs are normal and he receives regular medical evaluations and a court-mandated diet of home-cooked food. AAP had alleged dangerous drops in Kejriwal’s blood sugar levels and significant weight loss, leading to political controversy and public interest.
Today, On 12th July, The Supreme Court granted interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal in the money laundering case linked to the liquor policy controversy. Kejriwal is barred from visiting the Chief Minister’s Office and interacting with witnesses. The Court referred the legality of his arrest to a larger bench and highlighted the importance of judicial scrutiny in such cases.
Today(on 11th July), Delhi High Court Judge Amit Sharma recused himself from the NIA plea for death penalty against Yasin Malik. The case moved to Justice Prathiba M Singh’s bench due to roster changes, with a new hearing set for August 9. Yasin Malik, a separatist leader serving a life sentence, participated virtually from Tihar Jail.
46-year-old K Kavitha, a BRS leader, today filed a default bail application, citing an incomplete chargesheet by the CBI. Arrested for corruption, she was denied bail by the Delhi High Court on July 1. Her hearing is scheduled for 2 pm today, and she remains in judicial custody until July 18.
Today(on 8th July), Delhi High Court issues notices to Tihar Jail and ED in response to Arvind Kejriwal’s plea for more lawyer meetings due to involvement in 35 legal cases nationwide. Currently permitted only two meetings per week, Kejriwal argues the need for more frequent meetings to strategize effectively. Trial court previously denied his request for additional meetings.
Yesterday, On 6th July, The Delhi court denied Arvind Kejriwal’s request for his wife to be present during his medical check-up, citing that it contradicts prison regulations and could set a precedent against the rules. Despite this, the court approved his petition for access to medical records and allowed his wife to contact the medical board or doctors directly.
Today, On 5th July, The Delhi Court extended the judicial custody of BRS leader K Kavitha until July 18 in connection with the excise policy case. The extension follows the court’s previous order and reflects the ongoing investigation. Kavitha is facing charges by the CBI and ED for alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy, including undue favours and financial losses to the government exchequer.
