Today, On 1st August, The Supreme Court ruled that passing the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) is a mandatory requirement for teachers. Without clearing TET, they cannot continue in service or become eligible for future promotions within the education system.
The Supreme Court of India ruled against judicial interference in academic qualifications unless deemed arbitrary or illegal. It upheld that teachers hired before March 15, 2000, are eligible for revised pay scales, while those hired after must obtain a Ph.D. within seven years to qualify for higher pay or associate professor status.
