The Supreme Court of India will hear next week a suo motu case on rising digital arrest fraud, where scammers impersonate officials to extort victims. The Court earlier asked the Centre, Reserve Bank of India, banks and Department of Telecommunications to frame SOPs.
The Calcutta High Court today directed the CBI to investigate “hateful” social media posts containing images of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder victim. The Court expressed concerns about regulating online content and instructed the CBI to report back on the next hearing date. All related cases will be heard on September 18.
