NEW DELHI: Today, 20th Feb, The Supreme Court of India once again put a stay on a rule made by the Andhra Pradesh government that prevents non-Hindus from bidding for shops inside temple premises. This rule was introduced under Government Order (GO) No. 426 in 2015 and was upheld by the Andhra Pradesh High Court in 2019. However, the Supreme Court had already put a stay on the High Court’s decision in 2020.

NEW DELHI: On February 10, the Supreme Court raised concerns regarding an FIR filed against Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi by the Gujarat Police. The FIR was registered after Pratapgarhi allegedly posted an edited video of a provocative song. The Supreme Court bench, led by Justices Abhay S. Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan, questioned the reasoning behind the Gujarat High Court’s dismissal of Pratapgarhi’s plea to quash the FIR.
The Supreme Court temporarily stayed the investigation into an FIR against a man who called Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge “ayogya” (incompetent). This follows a challenge to the Karnataka High Court’s ruling, which upheld charges under specific IPC sections for inciting violence and promoting enmity, while dismissing those under the SC/ST Act.

The Supreme Court has stayed the proceedings related to an FIR filed by the Uttar Pradesh STF concerning the Rs 2,000 crore Chhattisgarh liquor scam. The stay was issued while hearing a petition filed by Vidhu Gupta, a Noida-based hologram manufacturer arrested by the UP STF. The FIR alleges manipulation in the tender process for hologram supply to the Chhattisgarh excise department. The ED claims that duplicate holograms were manufactured, leading to a liquor syndicate deceiving consumers. The allegations involve high-level officials and political figures generating illegal funds through liquor sales. The ED was directed to provide reports underpinning their complaint, and the court refrained from entertaining a challenge to the ED’s powers. The Chhattisgarh government accused the ED of overreaching in its investigation efforts.
