After 1.5 months, the Supreme Court will finally hear the high-profile RG Kar suo-moto case today. The Chief Justice-led bench will take up the matter as item number 3, with victim’s parents expected to be present in Delhi.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India will continue its hearing next week on the suo moto case concerning the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. According to the Cause List published on the Supreme Court’s official website, the Bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar will resume the hearing on March 17.

Today, On 22nd August, Members of the SCBA Executive Committee objected to a resolution signed by Kapil Sibal regarding the RG Kar Hospital incident, claiming it was not presented for consideration. The resolution expressed concern over prevailing malaise and hoped to prevent similar incidents across the country. The Supreme Court also criticized the handling of the case by the West Bengal police.
Today, 2nd May, The Supreme Court criticized the Calcutta High Court’s remarks on female adolescent sexual urges, emphasizing the need for sensitivity. It directed the West Bengal government to support minor rape survivors. Justices highlighted the importance of supporting survivors in nurturing environments, despite societal challenges. They also stressed the necessity for rigorous enforcement of the POCSO Act.
