Lady lawyers and New Delhi Bar Association members protest LG VK Saxena’s new police video conferencing evidence order, saying it is not in favour of clients and undermines fair trial rights.
NEW DELHI: On February 17, 2025, the Coordination Committee of All Bar Associations of Delhi made a unanimous decision to oppose the proposed Advocate Amendment Bill 2025. The committee has called for a complete strike from judicial work on Monday, February 19, 2025, in all District Courts across Delhi.
The Rajasthan High Court, while observing that doctors and lawyers are not expected to resort to strike, has urged the resident doctors of JARD to call off their strike as it allegedly created a “dismaying situation that the general public.” The Court allowed a petition under Section 528 of the BNSS that highlighted the issues the general public was facing due to the ongoing strike by the doctors and allied staff of medical therapeutics regarding the safety and protection of the doctors, especially the female doctors. The Court Commissioners also reported “melancholy at the hospital” due to the absence of critical staff, noting “severe hardships” faced by OPD and the need to postpone certain operations due to the strike.
The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) has today ended their two-week strike at AIIMS in Delhi following Supreme Court assurances. The strike was sparked by the rape and murder of a fellow doctor in Kolkata. The RDA thanked the Supreme Court and emphasized their commitment to advocating for healthcare worker safety.
The Supreme Court of India issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh Government regarding non-functional CCTV cameras in a courtroom where Senior Advocate Gaurav Bhatia was assaulted, emphasizing the state’s accountability for court safety. The Court ordered the report to be widely circulated and condemned actions compromising legal proceedings, following an assault on Bhatia and Advocate Muskan Gupta.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association has declared a day of protest in response to a farmer’s death during the ‘Dilli Chalo’ march. Meanwhile, Haryana’s Advocate General has instructed law officers to attend court, opposing the bar association’s decision. The deceased farmer’s death has sparked allegations of police involvement, prompting a request for a judicial inquiry.
