The court is now deliberating on whether the judgment should apply retrospectively or prospectively. This disagreement has caused significant consternation, with both sides presenting their arguments. The judgement is awaited.
Today, On 27th June, The Supreme Court imposed a Rs. 50,000 fine on Odisha for consistently filing appeals late, questioning the state’s practice. The court criticized the state for burdening the court and dismissed an appeal, while also questioning the frequency of delayed appeals from Odisha. Despite this, the court condoned a delay in another appeal.
