A retired Gujarat judge brought attention to Rs. 2,000 crores in unpaid compensation. Senior Advocate Meenakshi Arora is appointed as Amicus Curiae, and the Supreme Court seeks responses to address the issue.
Today, On 20th August, The Supreme Court granted Teesta Setalvad permission to travel abroad for a conference, provided she submits a Rs. 10 lakh surety. Setalvad is on bail for a case related to the Gujarat riots. The court ordered her to surrender her passport after the conference. The decision came after her counsel’s plea for relaxation.
Yesterday, 1st May, The Gujarat High Court addressed a PIL concerning the use of glue traps, focusing on the inhumane treatment of animals and the public health risks they pose. The court highlighted the failure to enforce existing laws prohibiting these traps and mandated responses from relevant authorities. The issue will be further examined in a follow-up hearing on July 5.
