The Delhi High Court will hear Solicitor General Tushar Mehta’s arguments opposing the bail pleas of Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam. Both are accused under UAPA in the alleged conspiracy behind the 2020 North East Delhi riots.
NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court, on Tuesday (21st Jan), emphasized that it cannot “endlessly” continue hearing submissions in the bail pleas of Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, and others in connection with the February 2020 riots case filed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The Delhi’s Karkardooma Court started hearing arguments on charges in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case. The prosecution stated the investigation is ongoing, but the court observed that the investigation regarding the accused persons is complete. The accused individuals, including Umar Khalid and Safoora Zargar, face stringent charges under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. The hearing will continue on September 6.
