KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court has accepted an appeal against the death penalty given by a POCSO court to a man convicted of raping and murdering a 10-year-old girl in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. This appeal was filed by the convict, Mostakin Sardar, and will now be reviewed by a division bench of the High Court.
A West Bengal court has sentenced a 19-year-old man to death for the abduction, rape, and murder of a nine-year-old girl, just 61 days after the horrific
crime occurred.The tragic incident unfolded on October 4 in Jaynagar, located in South 24 Parganas, when the young victim was returning home from her tuition class. The accused, Mustakin Sardar, confronted the girl, committed the acts of violence against her, and ultimately took her life.
Today(31st July), the Calcutta High Court, led by Justice Arindam Mukherjee, issued a stay on the appointment of temporary staff in North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas district courts. Justice Mukherjee also directed authorities to submit an affidavit explaining the reasons for hiring contractual staff in these courts.
