CJI Led Bench Today (July 30th) said it will hear on August 7th a plea of the Uddhav Thackeray faction challenging Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar’s order declaring the Shiv Sena bloc led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as the “real political party” after its split in June 2022.
The Thackeray factions plea was to be listed for hearing Today (March 1) before a bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud. The Supreme Court announced today that it will schedule for March 7 the petition filed by the Uddhav Thackeray faction contesting the ruling of Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, who declared the Shiv Sena bloc led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as the authentic political party.
The Supreme Court will consider Uddhav Thackeray’s faction’s plea challenging the Speaker’s declaration of Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena Bloc as the true political party. The faction alleges unconstitutional power intrusion and an unlawful government. The Court has issued notifications to Chief Minister Shinde and other legislators in response to the petition. The Thackeray faction fears the risk of losing their seats in the assembly.
