The NIA reported that Canada-based Khalistani operatives orchestrated the 2020 murder of Balwinder Singh Sandhu, a Shaurya Chakra awardee, amidst escalating tensions between India and Canada. The suspects, linked to the Khalistan Liberation Force, aimed to revive terrorism in Punjab by targeting individuals opposing their ideology.
