Unfair Trade Under Consumer Protection Law: CCPA Bars Hotels, Restaurants from Adding LPG, Fuel Charges

The Central Consumer Protection Authority directed hotels and restaurants not to impose LPG or fuel surcharges by default, calling it unfair trade. The regulator clarified such input costs must be included in menu prices, not charged separately to customers.

Kolkata Restaurant Fined for Overcharging on Beer and Water

On Monday (1st April): The Marco Polo restaurant in Kolkata has been fined for overcharging on beer and water. The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission imposed a penalty for violating Maximum Retail Price (MRP) regulations and service charge rules. The complainant was awarded a refund, mental distress compensation, and litigation charges, as the commission ruled in her favor.
