TodAY, On 18th August, In the Kerala universities vice-chancellor appointments case, the Supreme Court appointed retired Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia as chairperson of the search committee, empowering him to form joint or separate panels to shortlist candidates for both universities at the earliest.
Today, On 13th August, The Supreme Court said, “Don’t precipitate on temporary VC issue, position of law doesn’t change,” while deciding to form a search committee for appointing regular vice-chancellors in Kerala universities amid an ongoing deadlock between the Governor and state government.
The Union Law Ministry denied rushing the appointment of two election commissioners to preempt Supreme Court decisions on the 2023 law. The Central Government defended the appointments, stating the absence of a judicial member did not affect the Election Commission’s autonomy. The Supreme Court declined to stay the appointments despite objections.
