NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India, on Monday, March 17, dismissed a plea filed by the parents of the victim in the RG Kar rape-murder case, who had sought a fresh investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). However, the court permitted them to continue their legal battle in the Calcutta High Court.
Today, On 12th February, The Calcutta High Court has said that the RG Kar Hospital financial irregularities case should be handled quickly to keep people’s trust in the courts. This case was filed soon after the rape and murder of a junior doctor at the hospital, which shocked the entire country. The court warned that delayed justice could make people lose faith in the legal system. It has asked the authorities to conduct a fair and fast investigation into the matter.
A 20-year-old second-year MBBS student from RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata was found hanging in her hostel room on Friday. Her worried mother, a doctor at Kamarhati ESI Hospital, broke open the door after receiving no response to repeated calls and found her lifeless body. Police have not found a suicide note and are investigating the case as unnatural death. The incident comes after the brutal rape and murder of a female doctor at the same hospital last year, sparking concerns over student safety.
Kolkata: The RG Kar case, taken a new turn following the recent verdict. A group of lawyers and social activists has sent a letter to Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Sanjiv Khanna, urging a fresh investigation into the case. This request comes after key observations made by the judge of the Sealdah court during the trial.
