Yesterday, On 8th July, The Supreme Court dismissed West Bengal government’s plea to suspend CBI probe into ration scam cases. The High Court directed CBI to investigate ration scam cases, sexual assault, and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali, despite the state’s objections. The CBI was instructed to conduct a comprehensive probe, given the alleged association between key individuals involved in the cases.
Today(on 8th July),The Supreme Court, led by Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan, dismissed West Bengal’s Special Leave Petition challenging a High Court directive for a CBI investigation into allegations in Sandeshkhali. Despite the State’s request for a deferral, the Court upheld the broader scope of the investigation, encompassing multiple FIRs including those related to the Ration Scam.
On 30th May, The Calcutta High Court granted conditional bail to five associates of Basirhat BJP candidate Rekha Patra, prohibiting their entry to Sandeshkhali except on polling day as a precautionary measure. Today(on 17th May), The Calcutta High Court directed BJP Mandal President Gangadhar Kayl’s plea to the Chief Justice, citing the ongoing Sandeshkhali case being heard by another Bench. Justice Jay Sengupta led the proceedings, acknowledging Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya’s involvement in the main case.
Today, On 14th May A female BJP worker, Piyali Das, surrendered in the Sandeshkhali case, accused of fabricating sexual assault complaints against TMC leaders. The court remanded her to judicial custody for coercing a woman into signing a blank paper. The case raised doubts about the authenticity of the movement, initially a protest against land grabbing, turning into allegations of sexual atrocities committed by TMC leaders.
