NEW DELHI: The Central government has approved the appointment of two judicial officers to the Andhra Pradesh High Court. This announcement was made by Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, on X (formerly Twitter) today.
The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the appointment of six judicial officers as judges for the High Courts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh during a meeting on January 11. This decision addresses existing vacancies, with Telangana having 15 unfilled positions and Andhra Pradesh 11, improving judicial capacity in both states.
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya for appointment as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, replacing Justice Vibhu Bakhru. Currently the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, Upadhyaya’s appointment follows his legal career, including roles in the Allahabad High Court and state legal counsels.
Justice Brar’s name was first recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium for appointment as a judge in July 2022. This recommendation was reiterated in March 2023, leading to his eventual appointment as an Additional Judge of the High Court.
