Bombay: The Bombay High Court asked the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) whether it plans to take action against banks that repeatedly classify a person’s loan account as fraudulent without first giving them a chance to explain their side. The court’s direction came while hearing a petition filed by industrialist Anil Ambani, whose loan account with Canara Bank was declared fraudulent without any hearing.
Allu Arjun has filed a petition for regular bail in the Sandhya Theatre case after previously being granted interim bail. The Nampally District Court heard arguments from both sides regarding the police’s opposition to the plea. A verdict is expected on January 3, 2025, following a tragic stampede during a film screening.
The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, plans to hear Google LLC’s arguments on alleged anti-competitive practices in the Android market over five to six days. Both Google and the Competition Commission of India challenge a previous mixed ruling from the NCLAT, which upheld a significant fine against Google.
On Thursday(5th September),The Supreme Court directed Sahara Group to deposit Rs 1,000 crore into an escrow account within 15 days and permitted a joint venture to develop its Versova land, aiming to realize Rs 10,000 crore. This amount is required to be deposited into the SEBI-Sahara refund account to return investors’ money as per a 2012 court order.
The Bombay High Court today dismissed a PIL challenging Maharashtra’s ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’ scheme, stating it benefits women without discrimination. The court deemed the scheme a valid policy decision beyond judicial interference. The PIL’s arguments about political motivation and discriminatory nature were disregarded, and the court emphasized the scheme’s social welfare intent.
