Justice Anoop Kumar Dhand, a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court’s Jaipur Bench, was injured in a road accident near Ajmer on Tuesday night. He was immediately hospitalized, and doctors have confirmed that his condition is stable.
The Supreme Court ruled that a sudden brake on a highway without warning amounts to negligence, slamming the accused and awarding Rs 91 lakh compensation to the injured youth.
“If a person dies in an accident due to their own negligence, the insurer is not liable to pay compensation, however, married sons and daughters of the deceased are also entitled to claim compensation under the Motor Vehicles Act,” rules Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court granted interim bail to a man accused in a fatal accident after his father pledged Rs 1 crore to support the orphaned children. The Court ensured that the compensation would be for the children’s welfare, regardless of the case’s outcome.
The Karnataka High Court ruled that compensation for medical expenses under the Motor Vehicles Act must deduct amounts received through mediclaim policies. Hanumanthappa’s initial compensation was reduced from Rs 6.73 lakh to Rs 4.93 lakh after Rs 1.8 lakh, received via mediclaim, was subtracted from the awarded medical expenses.
