NEW DELHI: Today, 28th March, The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea seeking the registration of an FIR against Justice Yashwant Varma. A bench comprising Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan heard the case. The petition, filed by Advocate Mathews Nedumpara, argues that instead of transferring Justice Varma, a criminal case should be registered against him.
The Supreme Court of India today declined to entertain a plea regarding Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) irregularities, citing past examinations of similar issues. Justices emphasized the inherent flaws and merits of every system, expressing judicial fatigue over repetitive petitions. They reiterated the need to move forward and not base legal challenges on assumptions, underlining their discretion in revisiting settled issues.
The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, rejected a plea for reserved seats in the Lok Sabha for individuals with disabilities, questioning the need for disclosing disability status in nomination forms. The court deemed it a policy matter and dismissed the petition, filed by Jayant Raghav. The Lok Sabha is the lower house of India’s bicameral parliament.
