The Madhya Pradesh High Court Today (April 4th) stayed a special court’s order for the issuance of bailable warrants against former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state BJP president V D Sharma in a criminal defamation case.
Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, state BJP chief V D Sharma, and former state minister Bhupendra Singh have been issued a bailable warrant by a court in Jabalpur. This comes after they did not furnish undertakings in a criminal defamation case filed against them. The complaint was lodged by Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Vivek Tankha.
19th March (Tuesday): AAP leader Sanjay Singh told the Supreme Court that he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case without prior summons. The court scheduled further hearings for April 2. His legal representative argued that his arrest followed a statement by an ED witness in July 2023 without prior intimation. Singh was earlier detained by the ED on October 4 in connection with the case.
The Supreme Court today refused to stay the disqualification of six Congress rebels by the Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker for cross-voting in the recent Rajya Sabha polls. The rebel MLAs are barred from voting or Assembly proceedings pending the plea. By-elections for the vacant seats are under scrutiny, with a court listing set for May 6.
